The SP4900 is in many ways an awesome printer. And its ability to print exquisitely on canvas rolls puts it, for me, in another league. For reference, I have owned (and still do) Epson 2200 & SP 3880 printers. In comparison, the 4900 is industrial sized. So I made a specific table for it & keep it in a separate room, connected to my custom desktop with a 20 ft. USB cable. Yes, I know Epson says max of 10 ft. but that's conservative. I have WIFI, but I don't trust it for such huge files. For quality comparison, I profiled 2 versions of a recent photo of fall foliage in NY for both the 3880 & the 4900 on premium luster paper, then showed them to various friends & family for blind comparison (only I knew which was which). No one failed to find the 4900 version more appealing, more vibrant. Those extra colors are apparently not for naught. My initial experience with the printer was all joy: at the quality & the ability to keep rolls of paper installed under a cover, and still easily switch over to sheets. That soon changed to frustration, as the next time I tried to print (two weeks later, as I live in two States & go back & forth) resulted in a wasted picture with missing pigment. Two cleaning cycles later, still no better. So I called Epson & was advised to use the "power cleaning" (the one the manual warns wastes lots of ink). After 2 cycles of that, we were back to normal. At this point I asked the Epson rep if this meant that the 4900…

The 1200 dpi ability of this printer works as well as you would expect for text. The problem is moronic software. If a graphic has anything but pure black and white pixels (even 1-pixel wide soft gray edges), this printer switches to a horrid posterized shading mode which leaves jagged edges and spotted and criss-crossed fill areas. It does this with both sharp text and jagged graphics on the same page. I can improve my images by modifying the graphic in an editor to make it true black and white (NOT grayscale with shades), and then it prints with crisp lines.I called HP and installed their recommended drivers and settings, and it is the same.

The new DYMO DiscPainter CD/DVD color printer - A new spin on disc printing. Prints directly on CDs and DVDs quickly and easily using patented RadialPrintTM technology. Full coverage, high quality 600dpi in one minute, 1200dpi in less than 3 minutes.
June 28 2010I just called Dymo to ask a question about the Dymo Discpainter and was told by the support technician that Dymo has discontinued the product two weeks ago. When I clicked on their links from inside their website, I just got 404's and messages that there is no such product. Links from third parties still will take you to the Discpainter pages at Dymo, but I suspect they will be removing that shortly.Marion

Of the 4 printers that we now have on our network, this new Brother Color Laser is the favorite of all users. Setup, installation, and connection via ethernet was very simple and smooth. We have XP Pro, Vista (32bit), and Apple OS (X.5 Leopard) computers all on the same network (wired & wireless), and we had no problems with any connection and/or installation. The installation CD included in the box contained drivers for all of the above systems. Printing speed (color and B&W) is consistent with advertising, and color output is excellent. This printer prints on the front and back of pages automatically (full auto duplex). It handles envelopes via the front bypass like a breeze. I would recommend this printer over any of the other brands (selling for $500 and under). Also, Brother included full toner cartridges in the box, not just sample cartridges that run out of toner after 100 pages... Best of all, Amazon shipped the printer immediately, and we rec'd it in 1 day (as advertised). Perfect fulfillment.

I was looking for a device to replace my aging HP OfficeJet D145, which started to have problems printing color. I was looking for a multi-function device that can print, fax and occasionally scan. I also wanted duplex capability, so I can save paper by printing double-sided.I read great reviews of this unit, and I saw it in action in a local store. The only thing which I wasn't clear about was the duplex capability. Amazon lists it as having this capability, but Brother's own web site does not. Since I bought this device I can positively confirm it does NOT have duplex capabilities.Nevertheless I was not willing to step up to its bigger brother, the 9840cdw, since it's just bigger, heavier and in my opinion not as nice looking as this unit.I was looking for a silent machine, both when it's printing but also during its sleep time. For a home office printer I don't want more noise in it. This unit is rated at 30db noise. It's whisper quiet while sleeping, and not too loud when printing. It's certainly louder than the D145. There is a big fan on the right hand side of the printer that makes a lot of noise. When the printer boots up or prints the first page after it's been waken up from sleep, it tends to make a lot of noises for about 40 seconds. When not in sleep mode, the first page comes out in some 21 seconds, which is really fast and exactly as stated on Brother's web site. The print quality is excellent! If you're using an inkjet for your day to day prints, you should look…

Our office has two of these printers and they do get a lot of use. The second one was put in service a week ago. They print great and they are fast. The only complaint that I have about them is that even in "economy mode", they use a lot of toner. That can pose a real problem in locations that do high volume printing like we do. I cannot find any data on HP's website as to how many print jobs a toner cartridge should produce.

This printer printed better than any I've owned for about the first half of the original black toner cartridge (8 days), then parts had to be replaced (transfer roller). Worked great for another 21 days (had used about half of a 2nd black toner cartridge (after market - non Xerox toner). Then, we were printing and cancelled a print job on the computer in the middle of the print job, the printer printed about 100 pages of gibberish and some pages with error messages then started printing the gibberish again, as it printed (about 100 more pages) (we were not watching the print job so we did not stop the gibberish print) the black faded out until it was just dark enough to read it (very light gray). We called and they sent out an imaging unit. Did not fix the problem at all. So they sent out a technician. He replaced all normally routine maintenance parts except the transfer unit, which he ordered another of even though the first one did not fix the problem, but it hadn't come in before he was here on his 3rd visit in one week. It is now printing worse than when we originally called about the problem. It was originally just printing the black color too lightly, but now it is ghost printing, printing some black color dark and some light, and the more pages you print the worse it gets....the tech is coming again as soon as the imagining unit arrives....but he is trying to blame the whole mess on the non Xerox toner which worked fine for about half the cartridge and which also worked…

this is my third large format printer and by far the easiest to use. great looking prints. I do not even bother making copies anymore i just print more. the only problem is you have to unroll the roll feed to use the other formats. it is really too much trouble and i just use the roll feed all the time. at this price it is super affordable. and sits on the desk just fine.

HP LaserJet M3035XS Multifunction Printer CC477A#BCC
First off, website was deceptive. Unless you read the very, very fine print, you won't know that the base model of this "MFP" doesn't include a FAX. How can it be an "MFP" without a FAX? In fact, once I had unpacked the machine and began to assemble then realized there was no FAX, I learned that you can't even upgrade it for a FAX and they won't exchange without a 25% re-stocking fee. What a racket!Second, within days I learned that the ADF jams frequently in duplex mode, and there is NO PROCEDURE for clearing an ADF jam. You literally have to disassemble the ADF then tear out the jammed document bit by bit. Finally convinced HP to send another ADF...it jams too...but only if original weight is less than say 22 lbs paper. 20 lb originals are very iffy for duplex copying...may jam, may not.Third, variable output quality. Actually, print quality is OK and one of the reasons I bought HP...none of that light-weight eyestrain typeface that comes standard on every Brother printer. However, copies are atrocious. There is no 'copy' setting that will produce consistently dark enough copies that can actually be copied themselves! Finally, technical support that actually gives the US Post Office a run for its money in terms of indifference, attitude and stupidity. Now today, my partner has informed me the printer jams on virutally every print job. To clear, one must remove and replace the paper tray, open and close the toner door, then wait for printer to reset.I'll sell…

HP LaserJet P4014n Printer. Get reliable, affordable black and white printing for your small workgroup. Our networkable LaserJet P4014n prints at speeds of up to 45 pages per minute, plus it warms up right away whenever you need it.
Honestly it's a dream printer. Fast, clean looking, loud, but not too distracting, and the fact that it doesn't jam and print all black pages like my last HP is a welcome change. But setting it up with the help of HP, a nightmare. The printer comes with a very straight forward installation disk. I uploaded the necessary software, making sure to follow directions exactly. Each time an error about an incorrect file path would pop up. After attempting to go around this error I finally gave in and called HP. After nearly 4 hours they still had NO IDEA why I was getting an error, or how to get around it. Multiple downloads, multiple uninstalls, conferences, questions, nothing was working. In the end, without the help of HP we moved the printer to another computer and TA-DA it worked. Connected the remaining company computers via the network and things are now working perfectly. But why in those 4 hours couldn't HP figure out my issue? Why did no one know what this fatal error was?Had I not been using this printer at a company with a working network I would have eventually had to return the printer because of faulty installation on the main machine.Good printer, but don't count on HP to help you out if you find yourself in a jam.
